Diagram of the Eala [Clach na h-Ealaidh, Lios Mòr/Lismore, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] showing the measurements of the stone and accompanying notes which describe the situation of the stone as 'below the road at Iocar a chlachain' [Ìochdar a' Chlachain] and that it was where criminals came [for refuge] 'if they got their hand on the stone.'

Oban' and on the flyleaf is '[deleted: Twas] Friday 2 Sep[tember]. 1870. 12 noon from Ob[an]'. Folios 1-3r and 75r to 117v are blank. The text on folio 3v and 4r and 4v is written updside down and is later text (29 January 1875). Note about a ridge and boulders near Lonan [Lonain, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] including 'Lairig a fheoi' which is 'wher[e] Lonan begins at Barra Goillean [Barguillean]' and 'Ugh a gheoi' described as 'a boulder now'. Also noted are black stones in 'amair na h-aibhne' [the river bed] and on the side of the river at Clacha Dubha [Clachadow].

Note about archaeological finds around Lonain, 21 September 1884

Scope and Contents

Note about archaeological find around Lonain [Lonan, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire], including a 'ciste chloiche' which was opened by Dr Smith and Duncan Clerk but it contained nothing while a crogan or pitcher was found in a cairn nearby. It also notes that menhirs were taken to put on the road and that there is a fairy hill opposite Duntanachan.

Note collected from John Black, aged eighty-six, Killean, Lios Mòr/Lismore, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire about archaeological finds at Dun chrubain [Dùn hrùban] including a bone ring, three inches in diameter, a sword head and animal teeth. Black states that he and his brother cleared out the rubbish and found nine fireplaces inside. The description of the fireplaces is unclear.
